Minor Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel

Founded in 1580 by Franciscan missionaries, this church is among the oldest in Southern Luzon. It served as a vital religious center during the Spanish era and was declared a Minor Basilica by Pope John Paul II in 1988. The largest church in Quezon Province, this 16th-century Baroque basilica is known as the “Susi ng Tayabas” or “Key of Tayabas” for its key-like shape symbolizing access to heaven. It features a centuries-old bell tower, a grand altar, and a one-of-a-kind antique clock. Recognized as a National Cultural Treasure by the National Museum of the Philippines, the basilica stands as a symbol of faith and heritage—making it a major pilgrimage site and one of the most important historical landmarks in Southern Luzon.
