Ermita De Nuestra Seniora De Las Angustias
Ermita Nuestra Señora de Angustias—now known as Ermita Church—is among the oldest churches in Tayabas, built in 1838 with a roof renovation in 1845; by 1887 it was described as having a small cloister, a modest presbytery with a sacristy to the right, and walls fitted with four capiz-and-glass windows. Local tradition says the Minor Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel was first planned for this site, but the soil could not support it, so the basilica was moved a few blocks away. Another enduring tale tells of an image of the Virgin repeatedly found here—prompting the chapel’s dedication—and today the church serves as a center of the Turumba devotion in Tayabas, hosting Biernes de Dolores rites and dance-processions of thanksgiving to the Virgin Mary.
